The Rental Scam Monitor

Every other number on this site comes from an institution that published it. These come from us: what our verdict engine actually returned on listings people asked us to check. Aggregated so far that no check, person or listing can be read back out — and free to quote, with attribution.

Not enough checks yet to publish a breakdown

A percentage built on a handful of checks would be quotable, wrong, and ours. Until the sample clears 100 checks, this page publishes the count and nothing else.

Method, and what these numbers are not

  • Source: every verdict our engine returned in the last 12 months, grouped inside the database by platform, month and verdict band. No individual check is read out.
  • Suppression: any row describing fewer than 25 checks is pooled into “other”, and dropped entirely if the pool is also below 25.
  • Selection bias, stated plainly: these are listings someone chose to check, usually because something already felt wrong. The flagged rate here is higher than the flagged rate of the Dutch rental market, and it is not a measurement of any platform's honesty.
  • A flag is a risk signal, not a verdict about a person or a company. We never publish an address, an owner, a listing or a user.
